New York City has officially taken the crown as America’s top “sin capital” for 2026, according to a provocative new study — pushing Las Vegas out of the spotlight.
The report paints the Big Apple as the nation’s most indulgent and reckless city, thanks to its massive nightlife scene, high STI rates, and dense concentration of adult-oriented businesses. While Las Vegas has long carried the famous “Sin City” title with its casinos, strip clubs, and nonstop partying, researchers say New York now surpasses it in overall “sin density.”
The study, conducted by PokerTube, analyzed more than 200 US cities using demographic, geospatial, and public health data. Researchers looked at factors such as the number of bars, clubs, pubs, casinos, tattoo shops, adult stores, and strip clubs, alongside statistics on excessive drinking, STI cases, and single populations.
According to the findings, New York dominated across several categories, earning the top position as the country’s most sinful city. The ranking adds to NYC’s growing reputation for difficult dating and lonely living, following recent reports naming it one of the toughest places to find lasting relationships.
Surprisingly, Las Vegas didn’t even place second. That spot went to Baltimore, Maryland, which researchers described as having one of the most alarming public health profiles in the study. Despite its smaller population, Baltimore recorded extremely high STI rates and one of the nation’s highest percentages of single men. The city also ranked well above average in adult entertainment venues and casinos relative to its size.
Chicago secured third place, powered by its enormous nightlife culture and large single population. Researchers highlighted the city’s hundreds of bars and dozens of casinos as major contributors to its ranking.
The West Coast also made a strong appearance in the top 10. Phoenix and Tucson ranked high due to exceptionally elevated STI rates, while Las Vegas landed only in eighth place overall.
Researchers explained that although Vegas still dominates in casinos and strip clubs, it scored lower in other key categories. Its percentage of single residents is smaller than many East Coast cities, and its STI and drinking rates, while high, weren’t enough to keep it near the top.
In the end, the study suggests Las Vegas may still be built for visitors seeking temptation, but New York now wears the true “sin capital” crown for 2026.
